Capes Sokol is pleased to announce that Best Lawyers recently selected both David V. Capes and Jeffrey A. Cohen as a 2021 “Lawyer of the Year” in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
David was recognized for Litigation and Controversy–Tax, while Jeff was honored in the Business Organizations (including LLCs and Partnerships) category. Only a single lawyer in each practice area in the St. Louis area receives the “Lawyer of the Year” designation.

David V. Capes, senior counsel and a founder of Capes Sokol, has continuously been recognized as one of the top white collar defense attorneys in St. Louis. For over 40 years, David has concentrated his practice in tax and white collar criminal matters, defending individuals and businesses under investigation for and/or charged with federal tax and other white collar crimes.
For over 30 years he served as an adjunct professor of law at Washington University School of Law, teaching a course on tax fraud prosecutions in the graduate tax program. This year marks the fourth time David has been named “Lawyer of the Year” for the Litigation and Controversy-Tax practice area.

Jeffrey A. Cohen serves as Managing Shareholder and President of Capes Sokol and is a co-founder of the firm. Jeff has experience across a wide range of industries, including real estate, distribution, manufacturing and service businesses.
He also focuses on the representation of closely held businesses and their owners through the entire life of the company, including mergers and acquisitions, contract arrangements, business and succession planning, financing, corporate governance and other general business matters.
