Capes Sokol Tax Lawyers to Present at 2019 ABA Tax Section May Meeting

On May 9-11, 2019, Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir, Sara G. Neill, and Michelle F. Schwerin will present in front of the nation’s leading tax practitioners at the 2019 American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Taxation May Meeting.

 

Capes Sokol Presentations at the 2019 ABA May Tax Meeting

On May 10, 2019, Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir will moderate a panel titled, “Important Developments in the Federal Income Taxation of S Corporations.” This panel will discuss recent legislative, administrative and judicial developments relating to S corporations and their shareholders.

On May 10, 2019, Michelle F. Schwerin will be a panelist during, “Litigating International Penalties in Collection.” This program will discuss the procedures that apply after the IRS Examination Division assesses or proposes to assess a penalty for failing to report foreign income or assets. The panelists will explain the options available to contest and/or compromise the international penalties under Title 26, including accelerated appeals, collection due process hearings, collection alternatives, and Tax Court litigation.

On May 11, 2019, Michelle will provide an update on “Important Civil Developments” in tax cases to the Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee. In addition, Sara will provide an update on “Important Criminal Developments” in tax cases to the Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee.

 

2019 ABA May Tax Meeting

This annual event, presented by the ABA’s Taxation Section, brings together high-level government officials, judges, corporate counsel, and private practitioners to discuss the latest tax developments, strategies, and techniques for tax practitioners.

Michelle Feit-SchwerinMichelle F. Schwerin represents individuals and businesses in a variety of tax matters, including tax liability disputes, innocent spouse claims, claims for penalty abatement, refund claims and litigation, preparer and promoter penalty investigations and tax collection matters.  Michelle is an adjunct professor at Webster University, where she teaches in the Masters of Forensic Accounting program. She was recently recognized for the second consecutive year by The Best Lawyers in America for her work in Litigation and Controversy-Tax and named a Rising Star in the Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers List in 2018.
