Al-Shathir, Schwerin, and Neill to Present at the ABA Tax Section 2023 Midyear Tax Meeting
Shareholders Laura Krebs Al-Shathir, Michelle F. Schwerin, and Sara G. Neill will present at the ABA Tax Section’s 2023 Midyear Tax Meeting in San Diego.
On Friday, February 10, Al-Shathir will moderate the panel, “Reorgs may be more complicated than they seem – Combing Through the Intricacies of Rev. Rul. 2008-18.” This panel will cover many nuanced issues involving certain S corporation F reorganization transactions, highlighting guidance provided in Revenue Ruling 2008-18.
On the same day, Schwerin will moderate a panel discussion, “Standards of Tax Practice: Valuations and Ethics.” This panel will focus on current valuation issues in the tax arena. In valuation tax disputes, often thorny ethical issues arise, including how to maintain privilege, determining the appropriate role of the tax practitioner, and use of a Kovel agreement.
On Saturday, February 11, on behalf of the Tax Section’s Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee, Neill will present on Important Developments in Criminal Tax Litigation.

This annual event, presented by the ABA’s Taxation Section, brings together high-level government officials, judges, corporate counsel, and private practitioners to discuss the latest tax developments, strategies, and techniques for tax practitioners.
