Capes Sokol is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter century of growth, innovation, and dedication to serving clients in St. Louis and beyond.

Founded in 2001 by a group of eight attorneys with a shared vision of building a collaborative, client-focused firm, Capes Sokol has evolved into a dynamic, full-service law firm recognized for its deep relationships, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to excellence.

Over the past 25 years, the firm has expanded its team, enhanced its capabilities, and continuously adapted to meet the evolving needs of its clients. From early expansion of its physical footprint to the development of innovative practice areas, Capes Sokol has consistently positioned itself at the forefront of the legal services industry.

“Over the past few years, we’ve made intentional investments in our infrastructure, technology, and people to support the firm’s continued growth,” said Katie Bircher, Chief Operating Officer of Capes Sokol. “Our goal has been to build a strong operational foundation that allows our attorneys to focus on serving clients while also creating opportunities for leadership and development. Today, five of our seven practice groups are led by female attorneys, which reflects the strength and depth of our team. As we look to the future, we will continue to focus on thoughtful, strategic expansion that supports our clients and our people.”

Throughout its history, Capes Sokol has demonstrated a commitment to forward-thinking development. The firm has expanded its service offerings to include practice areas such as intellectual property and entertainment and media, while also bolstering its real estate and litigation practice groups. Most recently, the firm has added family law and launched the Retail Law Collective, further strengthening its ability to serve clients across a wide range of industries and needs.

In addition to its legal work, Capes Sokol has remained deeply rooted in the St. Louis community. The firm has been recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal’s Philanthropy Awards each year since 2020, an honor that reflects its continued commitment to giving back and supporting the region it serves.

A defining moment in the firm’s recent history came in 2023, when founding member Jeffrey A. Cohen transitioned from Managing Shareholder to Chairperson, passing day-to-day leadership to Dove. This transition marked a new chapter while reinforcing the firm’s commitment to continuity, collaboration, and long-term success.

Today, Capes Sokol operates from its modern, multi-floor office in the Regions Centre in Clayton, reflecting both its evolution and its continued investment in providing a premier environment for clients and employees alike.
