Michael A. Kahn has become Counsel to Capes, Sokol, Goodman & Sarachan, P.C., joining the Litigation Practice Group and heading up the firm’s new Intellectual Property Practice Group.

An honors graduate of Harvard Law School, Mike was awarded the 2013 St. Louis Attorney of the Year designation in the field of intellectual property litigation by the Best Lawyers organization, which recently announced that it has named him the 2014 St. Louis Copyright Attorney of the Years. He has also been named a Missouri Super Lawyer and has been designated a Best Lawyer in America in six separate categories, including media and entertainment law.

In addition to his trial practice, Mike is the award-winning author of The Flinch Factor and several other novels and short stories. He is also an adjunct professor of law at Washington University, where he teaches a course on censorship and the First Amendment.

Over the years, Mike has handled many high-profile cases in the fields of entertainment and intellectual property, including, most recently, the copyright lawsuit by the tattoo artist who created Mike Tyson’s facial tattoo over the use of that creation by Warner Bros. in the movie “Hangover II.” Other litigation clients have included the National Basketball Association, Oprah Winfrey, Lions Gate Entertainment, the New York Yankees and The North Face.

A former elementary school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools, Mike married his high school sweetheart Margi Lenga. They have five children and, so far, five grandchildren. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a master’s degree in teaching from Northwestern University.
