Capes Sokol proudly announces that David Capes has been selected as a 2018 ICON Award honoree. The award, presented by Missouri Lawyers Weekly, honors attorneys from around the state for their, “notable and sustained success and leadership both within and beyond the field of law.”

“David is hardworking, intuitive, well-liked, respectful and respected,” said Sanford J. Boxerman, Capes Sokol Shareholder and one of the firm’s founders. “As a teacher and mentor, David taught by example. He transmitted not just technical legal knowledge, but also how to be a professional. The traits he demonstrated and instilled in the firm that bears his name live on and permeate Capes Sokol to this day.”

David is one of the twenty-five honorees selected statewide for the ICON awards. He will be recognized with the other honorees on Friday, June 1 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. In addition, he will be profiled in a special section of Missouri Lawyers Weekly on May 28th.

David Capes, one of the founders of Capes Sokol, has continuously been recognized as one of the top white collar defense attorneys in St. Louis. For over 40 years, David has concentrated his practice in tax and white collar criminal matters, defending individuals and businesses under investigation for and/or charged with federal tax and other white collar crimes. He began his career in the public sector, first as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright, then as an Attorney-Advisor to the Assistant Attorney General, and finally as a federal prosecutor, initially for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Tax Section and subsequently at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri.

David has been a force in the St. Louis Community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Washington University Hillel Foundation, The Jewish Center for the Aged (President, JCA Associates), Congregation Temple Israel (Treasurer), Westwood Country Club (President) and The Anti-Defamation League. For over 30 years he has served as an adjunct professor of law at Washington University School of Law, teaching a course on tax fraud prosecutions in the graduate tax program. In his spare time, David teaches a photography class at Fanning Middle School in St. Louis City as part of an enrichment program administered by UrbanFUTURE.

The inaugural ICON Awards recognizes, “distinguished men and women attorneys age 60 and older for their exemplary careers and longstanding commitment to the Missouri legal community.” The list of 2018 honorees includes judges, founding partners, mediators, a former U.S. Senator and legal scholars.
