Capes Sokol proudly announces that Sarah J. Luem has been selected as a Missouri Lawyers Weekly 2018 Up & Coming Awards Honoree. The award, presented by Missouri Lawyers Media, is awarded to, “early-career lawyers who demonstrate professional excellence while making a positive impact on their profession and communities.”

“Since joining the firm, Sarah’s experience level has grown way ‘beyond her years’ of practicing law,” said Jeffrey A. Sarah is one of the forty-five honorees selected statewide for the annual Up & Coming awards. She will be recognized with the other honorees in early October at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis. In addition, she will be profiled in a special edition issue of Missouri Lawyers Weekly.

Sarah J. Luem

Sarah joined Capes Sokol after graduating from Saint Louis University Law School in 2011 and currently serves as an Associate.  She focuses her practice on the resolution of complex legal matters that affect businesses in a variety of industries – particularly those involving ownership disputes and deadlocks, succession planning, buy-sell agreements, and business divorces.

At Capes Sokol, Sarah implemented a program for Capes Sokol attorneys to staff a Legal Services of Eastern Missouri legal clinic at the Grace Hill Women’s Business Center to provide counseling in connection with microbusiness development for aspiring women, with a focus on minority entrepreneurs in the community. In addition, she serves as Co-Chair of Capes Sokol’s Summer Associate Program which integrates 3L students into the daily fabric of the legal practice.

Outside of the law firm, Sarah serves as an Adjunct Professor at Washington University’s Olin Business School where she teaches an upper-level course on Business Law. Sarah is an active member of the Young Survival Coalition (“YSC”) Legislative Advocacy Advisors, where she routinely reviews current and proposed legislation affecting those affected by breast cancer and recommends opportunities for local, state and federal governments to collaborate or support these groups. Sarah is also a member of the Board of Directors for Givable, a St. Louis-based charity whose mission is to empower individuals and businesses to fuel change by making giving easy, social, and interactive. In addition, Sarah is a board member of Books for St. Louis Kids, whose mission is to provide new books to children in need.

Up  & Coming Awards:

The annual Up & Coming awards celebrate outstanding legal professionals who are 40 or younger or who are within their first 10 years of practice. Honorees have demonstrated professional accomplishment, skill and leadership beyond their years as well as extraordinary commitment to their communities through volunteer service and leadership. In addition to the general category, Missouri Lawyers Weekly recognizes attorneys in four supplementary special categories, Law Firm Leader, Public Service, Pro Bono Project, and Mentor.
