Capes Sokol is proud to announce that attorneys Michael L. Schechter and Ajla Alunovic have been named to Missouri Lawyers Media’s 2026 Family Law POWER List, recognizing influential attorneys who have demonstrated leadership and made significant contributions to the practice of family law throughout Missouri.

The recognition marks another milestone for Capes Sokol’s Family Law Practice Group, which was established in 2024 under Schechter’s leadership. Schechter and Alunovic joined the firm from The Schechter Law Firm, P.C., bringing decades of combined experience and an established family law practice to Capes Sokol. Their arrival expanded the firm’s legal services to include comprehensive representation in divorce, complex property division, child custody and support, maintenance, and other family-related matters.

Since its formation, the practice group has continued to build on that foundation, providing strategic, personalized counsel to individuals and families navigating complex and often sensitive legal challenges.

Michael L. Schechter, a shareholder and chair of Capes Sokol’s Family Law Practice Group, brings more than three decades of experience representing clients in complex family law matters, including high-asset divorce, property division, and child custody disputes. This marks Schechter’s second consecutive year on Missouri Lawyers Media’s Family Law POWER List, following his recognition in 2025. He was also named a 2026 Legal Champion by the publication. His longstanding professional accolades include recognition in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2012, including being named the 2022 Family Law Lawyer of the Year in St. Louis, and selection to the Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers list since 2014.

Ajla Alunovic, counsel in the firm’s Family Law Practice Group, represents clients in a broad range of family law matters, providing thoughtful legal guidance and dedicated advocacy tailored to each client’s circumstances. Her inclusion on the 2026 Family Law POWER List adds to her growing list of professional accomplishments, including Missouri Lawyers Media’s 2020 Up & Coming Award, which recognizes emerging leaders in Missouri’s legal profession. Alunovic has also earned recognition in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for Family Law and the Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers Rising Stars list. Beyond her legal practice, she remains actively involved in the St. Louis community through volunteer efforts supporting individuals and families in need.
