Al-Shathir & Schwerin to Present at 2019 ABA Fall Tax Meeting
On October 4-5, 2019, Capes Sokol Shareholders, Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir and Michelle F. Schwerin, will present to many of the country’s leading tax attorneys and government officials at the 2019 American Bar Association Fall Tax Meeting.
On Friday, Laura will moderate a panel discussion on, “Current Developments in the Federal Income Taxation of S Corporations.” The panel will discuss recent legislative, administrative and judicial developments relating to S corporations and their shareholders.
Michelle will moderate a panel on, “The Reasonable Cause Defense: Effective Strategies When Requesting Penalty Abatement.” This panel will discuss practice considerations and strategies when asserting a reasonable cause defense to challenge penalties asserted by the IRS.
Later that day, Michelle will also present on, “It’s a Brave New World: Ethical Issues in the Information Age.” This panel will address the ethics of real-life scenarios, including best practices for safeguarding client data, Geolocation tracking, immigration and customs searches, and checking a client’s digital footprint.
On Saturday, Michelle will provide an update on “Important Civil Developments” before the Tax Section’s Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee.
