Al-Shathir, Neill, and Boxerman to Present at the 2023 ABA Tax Section May Meeting

Laura Krebs Al-Shathir, Sara G. Neill, and Sanford J. Boxerman, shareholders of Capes Sokol, will present at the ABA Tax Section’s 2023 May Meeting in Washington, D.C. from May 4th to 6th.

Al-Shathir, as the chair of the Tax Section’s S Corporation Committee, will oversee the committee’s panels, introduce speakers, and manage the event.

On May 5th, Neill will participate in a discussion titled “Presenting Transactions in Tax Court – A Discussion with Tax Court Judges, with a Focus on Planning for and Litigating Self Employment Tax Issues.” This discussion will cover the current state of case law resulting from tax planners’ efforts to minimize self-employment tax in different business settings. The aim is to give transactional lawyers a better understanding of how their work may be used by the IRS and controversy lawyers in ensuing tax litigation.

On the same day, Boxerman will participate in the panel discussion, “Lifecycle of an OPR Investigation.” This panel will discuss how the IRS’s Office of Professional Responsibility investigates alleged practitioner misconduct, from initial complaint through final resolution. The panel will also provide an update on recent guidance and discuss issues of concern and areas of focus.

2023 ABA Tax Section May Meeting

This event is the ABA Tax Section’s largest and most significant gathering of lawyers interested in various aspects of tax law, providing attendees access to all CLE & CPE programming, including ethics, presented by over 30 Tax Section committees. Along with the comprehensive programming, participants will also have opportunities to network, share ideas, and establish new business relationships.
