Capes Sokol’s Business and Real Estate Team Facilitates Development of Magic Mini Golf for Client Joe Edwards

Capes Sokol’s Business and Real Estate team proudly announces the successful representation of their long-standing client, Joe Edwards, in the development of Magic Mini Golf and the adjacent Church Building. This two-phase project adds magic to The Delmar Loop’s vibrant landscape.

The project began in 2020, shortly following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase revitalized a former synagogue and church building, which now houses the Swade/BeLeaf Dispensary. The second phase, Magic Mini Golf, features an 18-hole mini golf course, two shuffleboard courts, a bar with light food service, and an indoor Ferris Wheel. Magic Mini Golf opened to the public on Friday, October 20th.

Senior Counsel John S. Meyer, Jr. led Capes Sokol’s team of professionals who worked hand-in-hand with Edwards from the project’s conception to completion.

“It’s always a thrill to work with Joe. His creative vision, attention to detail, and tenacity are inspiring,” said Meyer. “It is especially rewarding to see this project open for business, not just because of the challenges presented by the COVID-19 Pandemic, but also because the Magic Mini Golf building beautifully completes the Delmar-East streetscape. Magic Mini Golf is announced by a brilliant, animated neon sign that gives passers-by just a hint of the magical experience that awaits inside.”

Edwards, a prominent figure in The Delmar Loop, has made a lasting impact on the Saint Louis community. Edwards and his wife, Linda, opened their first business in the Delmar Loop in 1972. Their flagship, Blueberry Hill, soon gained national recognition while retaining its intimate charm.

Edwards’ iconic projects in The Delmar Loop include restoring the Tivoli Theatre, the Pin-Up Bowling Alley, Moonrise Hotel, and music venues, The Pageant Theatre and Night Club, Delmar Hall, and The Duck Room. The American Planning Association recognized The Delmar Loop as “One of the 10 Great Streets in America” in 2007.

Members of the Capes Sokol team who worked with Meyer on this project included shareholders R. Thomas Avery and Brian J. Sabin, senior counsel Michael A. Kahn, counsel Aaron E. Schwartz, associate Kara L. Lambert, and paralegal Robin L. Steiner, with support from legal assistant Amy Buttrum.
