Capes Sokol proudly announces that Sarah J. Luem and Alexandra L. Hemphill, Capes Sokol associates, have been named the Pro Bono Volunteers of the Month by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (‘BAMSL”).

From the April 2020 issue of the St. Louis Lawyer:

“Capes Sokol has a long tradition of providing free or discounted legal services to economically disadvantaged people and the institutions that serve them. One-way Sarah J. Luem and Alexandra L. Hemphill model the firm’s altruistic culture through their volunteer work at the Grace Hill Legal Clinic. Capes Sokol also supports Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (“LSEM”) by providing annual funding, event sponsorship and other key support.

In 2016, Luem was inspired to collaborate with Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (LSEM) to create an opportunity for Capes Sokol’s transactional attorneys to volunteer in a way that best utilized their skills and knowledge. As a result of these efforts, Capes Sokol now staffs a monthly legal clinic at the Grace Hill Women’s Business Center. Luem, Hemphill and other attorneys from the firm provide aspiring entrepreneurs with legal advice to help them launch and operate their businesses, with a focus on minority and female entrepreneurs.

Luem and Hemphill are associates in the firm’s business and real estate practice group. Luem focuses her practice on resolving complex legal matters that affect businesses in a variety of industries–particularly those involving ownership disputes and deadlocks, succession planning, and business divorces. Hemphill focuses her practice in the areas of banking, real estate, corporate, and business law. She has experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and handling all aspects of real estate acquisitions and dispositions. She also has experience in a variety of corporate matters, including business formations and dissolutions and corporate governance.”
