Dan was a skilled litigator and a trained mediator who represented individuals and families in complex, high-stakes, and high-profile family law proceedings prior to his retirement at the end of 2014.
During his 40 years of active law practice, Dan provided business counsel and representation to small business owners and served as a litigation consultant and an expert witness.
In 2020, he was elected the Ward 3 Alderman for the city of Clayton. Over the years, he was appointed as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis County, as a Municipal Judge for the City of St. Louis, and as an Alternate Judge for the City of Clayton. The Administrative Judge of the Family Court of St. Louis County previously appointed Dan to serve on several of its standing and special committees.
A dedicated member of the legal community, Dan served three terms on the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar and served on many of its special and regular committees and task forces. In addition, he was a past president of the Missouri Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, chair of the Family Law Committee of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and vice-chair of the Missouri Bar’s Family Law Section.
A leader in his field, Dan presented over fifty continuing legal education programs for the Missouri Bar Association, American Bar Association, Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, University of Missouri, and others.
His commitment extended beyond the legal world, and he was an active member of the St. Louis community. Over the course of his lifetime, he served as a board member for eight different community, civic, and nonprofit organizations. These organizations included: Safe Connections, St. Louis County Domestic & Family Violence Council, National Center for Violence Prevention, American Jewish Committee, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Missouri Lawyers Credit Union, Missouri Professional Liability Review Board Authority, and Old Town Clayton Neighborhood Association.
For his leadership and professional accomplishments, Dan received a variety of awards. In 1991, he was designated and elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for exemplifying the highest professionalism and collegiality in family law. He was recognized for Family Law in The Best Lawyers in America® – St. Louis list and the Super Lawyers® Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers List. In addition, Best Lawyers in America recognized Dan as the St. Louis “Family Law Lawyer of the Year” several times during his career.
Dan earned his juris doctorate, with honors, from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1974 and his Bachelor of Science in Business from New York University in 1970. For his high professional standards at the bar and on the bench, Dan was elected a member of the St. Louis University School of Law’s Order of Woolsack Honor Society.
